🌸 How to Press Sublimation Transfers
✨ Please Note: All heat presses vary in temperature and pressure. The guidelines below are general recommendations. If this is your first time ordering with us, we recommend ordering a few extra transfers to test and determine the optimal temperature, time, and pressure for your specific press.
🚫 A household iron is not suitable for sublimation transfers and will not achieve the results you need.
⚠️ Important:
DO NOT press the coloured ribbon that runs along the edge of your transfer roll. This ribbon is not sublimation ink and will permanently adhere to your garment if pressed.
🪡 Step-by-Step Pressing Instructions
1️⃣ Pre-Press Your Garment
-
Press your garment for 5 seconds before applying the transfer to remove wrinkles and any moisture trapped in the fabric.
2️⃣ Prepare Your Garment
-
Place white copy paper or parchment paper inside your shirt to prevent ink bleed-through to the back.
-
Pre-check your fabric for lint or debris and remove with a lint roller if necessary.
3️⃣ Set Your Heat Press
-
Temperature: 204°C (400°F)
-
Time: 45–60 seconds
-
Pressure: Light to medium (varies by press and substrate)
4️⃣ Position Your Transfer
-
Place your sublimation transfer face down on your garment in the desired position.
-
Use heat-resistant tape to secure your design if needed to prevent shifting during pressing.
-
Cover with parchment paper or butcher paper to protect your heat press.
5️⃣ Press
-
Press using the recommended settings above.
-
Once the timer finishes, carefully remove the transfer immediately while hot.
📌 Additional Tips:
✅ Sublimation requires polyester or high polyester-content fabric for best results.
✅ Colours will appear dull on the paper but will become vibrant once pressed.
✅ Each blank (shirts, mugs, keyrings, etc.) may require slight adjustments in time and temperature. Please check the manufacturer’s guidelines for your specific blanks.
✅ Avoid pressing over seams, collars, or zippers for even pressure.
🔍 Testing Recommended
Pressing sublimation transfers can vary based on:
-
Your press brand/model
-
Substrate type
-
Environmental factors (room temperature, humidity)
We strongly recommend testing on scrap fabric or an extra blank to fine-tune your settings before fulfilling customer orders.
